CËRUJA

Albanian White Wine

Ceruja, a remarkable white wine, is crafted from the Cëruja grape variety, grown on hundred-year-old ungrafted vines that thrive spontaneously, intertwining with trees without any human intervention. Named after the naturally isolated village of Cëruja, this grape variety has been protected from the devastating phylloxera disease that affected vineyards across Europe, preserving its distinctive qualities and contributing to the exceptional character of the wine.

CËRUJA WINE

Vineyard

Our vineyards located in Klos and Bulqize are nestled in the enchanting Mat river valley, situated in the central hilly region of Albania. This picturesque wine region boasts an ideal vineyard altitude, ranging between 400 to 600 meters. The soil in this area is a mix of clay and sandy soils, providing excellent drainage and moisture retention properties.

Climate conditions

The climate in the vineyard location aligns with the characteristics of a Mediterranean climate. Summers bring warmth and dryness, with average temperatures ranging from 25°C to 30°C. Winters are mild, offering a period of dormancy for the vines. The region receives moderate rainfall throughout the year, providing the necessary hydration for the vines.

Harvesting

Our harvesting and winemaking process is carefully executed to ensure the production of exceptional wines. The harvest takes place from 20th September to 20th October when the grapes reach their optimal maturity. Our dedicated team handpicks the grapes from old vines that are gracefully climbing on trees, preserving their unique character and taste.

Winemaking

At the winery, the grapes undergo a meticulous winemaking process. Cryo maceration is employed for 24 hours, followed by soft pressing to extract the juice gently. The juice then undergoes natural precipitation in stainless steel tanks. Cold controlled fermentation takes place over a period of 12-15 days, allowing for the development of delicate flavors.
